chaos

It is hard to move in a very chaotic place. You don’t know how you will react to situations, to people. One of my colleague said that in order for me to survive in this work place I have to beef-up my face. I must show some aspect of plasticity. I must learn how to face people even though I know for the fact that when I’m not around there are talking against me. IT’S NOT JUST ME! That’s not how I deal with other people.

My friends here are leaving this place one by one. Not that they want to, they are forced to leave this place. Its either they are accused of doing something or they are just a victim of lies proliferated by others.

Slowly I’m kind of getting the vibes that I’m next. So what should I do? Should I leave now or wait for them to push me away? But I have nowhere to go. I have a family to feed. What am I going to do…

There is one great teacher of mine told me that there is order in chaotic places. Well, I hope he is right!

ppp

I was bored one day, in front of my computer and doing nothing. I decided to make my own blog. So from there I created this blog. At first it like a child’s play for. Until one day one of my friends told me that I can earn extra bucks just by blogging. So search the internet on how to do it. The net gave me a lot of answers and one of them is this payperpost site. I signed up here I am posting something for them.

All that I have to do is review some ads and post it here and eventually I will be paid for it. It’s that simple. I was enticed to that! Of course who doesn’t want to earn a lot of money? We all want to be financially free. Buy everything what we want, right? Have you own house, your own car, your own company. My friend keeps on telling me, “Positive thinking. All that we need is to believe in ourselves.” And I think with a lot of perseverance and a little help from pay per post we will all succeed. I can see the now the trend, many people are exchanging their low-paying job to blogging. Why not? You can earn twice as much as you are earning in your job. So for me, it is time to change profession.

power tripper

how would you feel if one morning all your things are scattered all around the office? how would you feel if your things were transfered into the other room? how would you feel if some of your things are missing? HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?

that's what we felt yesterday when we arrived in our work place and we saw our things were scattered all round the room. some of our things were missing. and the worst thing is that, we were not informed that they are going to move our things to somewhere else. we were not informed!

self-control part 2

we are not happy because all that we care about is ourselves. how often do we use the word?(it happened to be that phrase is a cliche) we want to achieve happiness, our happiness alone.

Confucius said that man's perfection and happiness is realized and achieved in social life. meaning we must involved others in our plan, our plan to be happy. i mean Confucius is right, how can you be happy if you can see that other people is suffering or they are sad? and the sad reality is we are brought up to be indifferent with others. how often do we say, "i don't care if other people are sad, the important thing is i'm happy!"

He also advocated the reconciliation of conflicts, differences among individuals in the society. and that's what the "golden rule" is for. "treat others as you wish them to treat you." if we can only observe this golden rule whole-heartedly, then this world would be a better place for us to roam around. there will be no conflict, peace and harmony will prevail in our society.

we are not also happy because our passion rules our reason. we don't want to obey the golden rule because that person did something bad to us. so in return to his/her bad deeds, we will do the same. that's what the golden say. treat others the way they treated you. but, you are more govern by you passion, emotion and not by your reason. the peace and harmony must start from within us. there is now the necessity for self-control. "he who conquers others is strong. He who conquers himself is the greatest victor"

self-control, meaning controlling your emotions, passions. don't let it be the basis for your action.

so why are we not happy? because we are letting our passion rule our lives. our passion is telling us to do things for ourselves alone.

self-control

One of my favorite philosopher is Confucius. He believed that life is not a delusion, a curse or misery in contrast to what Gautama Buddha have said. Confucius further said that the living reality is a blessing for us. It is the most priceless gift and opportunity for us to be with others and work together for our common goal in life, which is to attain happiness.

in deed all of us are finding ways to attain that state, state of being happy. we are made to believe that we could find the "h" word in our work, in our community, in our family, in others and within ourselves. well they are correct! we can find the "h" word in all of what is stated above.

but why are we not happy? we've been working so hard, sometime even having 2 different jobs. one during the daylight and during the night time. we are always doing overtime just to finish the job ahead of schedule.

but why are we not happy? we are members of socio-civic groups, we are volunteer of this organization, we attending this fellowship. we are always busy during the weekends because of commitments.

but why are we not happy? we have our own family. we are playing with our kids, going to vacation trips, etc.

but the question remains, why are we not happy?

think about it.. i will write about it on my next post.

foundation or false-dation

you see in the television that whenever there is someone who needs help, these foundations are always there ready to help. they are bragging that their support extends to the needy. they are encouraging us that whenever we have problems, their door is open. or it's the other way around?

one of my colleague is in need because of his son. he went to these foundations shown in the television. but sad to say his needs were not met. they say that they will only shoulder the medicines if ever his son is confined in the hospital.

just a thought.

wet hands

hay naku! nakakainis. bakit ang mga tao dito, kung kelan nanjan na ang event tsaka naman nila gustong mainvolve sa mga bagay-bagay. bakit noon eh parang ayaw nga nilang makialam sa projects and activities. and why now they want their hands to get wet. they want to dip their feet in the water wherein before they despise doing. hay naku! ang mga tao nga naman, gusto lang na makisawsaw sa mga big events. pero ayaw naman maging part ng planning. all that they want is the recognition. anakngtokwangdulingathilaw!!!!

environmental conservation

during my younger years, in my early teens to be exact, i was a member of a conservation corps. we call ourselves the youth conservation corps. it is a community based group which its main thrust is to lessen the destruction of our planet earth. we are sent to other places to train on how to do basic recycling, waste management and garbage disposal. and then we conduct a re-echo seminar in our respective communities. as usual their reaction is that, "why do i have to bother myself in segregating my garbage if i can just throw it all at once in the garbage pit." that's their response every time we do the re-echo seminar. they don't listen to us because we are just teenagers. teenager who do no know anything.

but now, those people who are against us are the ones approaching us if we could conduct another seminar on that. they are alarmed that every time it rains, the flood waters are carrying waste materials which enters their homes. they feared they might caught some incommunicable diseases. and this is really alarming, just one day of rain the flood water is so high. if they only listened to us back then, maybe the effect today would be minimal.

language of dreams

i was reading a book written by david fontana, his language of dreams book. its a nice book, it helped me a lot in interpreting my dreams as well as the dreams of my family. his book is based on the theories of sigmund freud and carl jung. and after you have read the book, you will be encourage to make your own dream notebook.

and as of now i'm practicing to be a lucid dreamer. i am able to control, manipulate in a sense, my dreams now.

but its an advantage if you have a background of the theories of freud and jung.

idea for a novel

i have this idea, why write a novel about people going back from senescence to young age. the life of people will start from old age and people die when they are they become babies.;

re-chargeable radio

have you heard of a chargeable radio? well i got one. the sister-in-law of my former officemate is working as a sales executive in a big technology firm. they were promoting this new radio, chargeable one. as a treat, they sold it half the price. so there we were, that radio was selling like hot pancakes.

the radio has knob that you will use to re-charge it. inside it is a mini-generator which produce enough energy to keep the radio playing. for one minute of turning the knob the radio will be playing for almost five minutes. though it comes with FM and AM band only. it is also handy that you can put it inside your bag and bring it on a camping trip.

but problem is, that radio is out of stock. why? this is only my guess, maybe the battery companies bought all the units being sold commercially. if that radio will click in the market then definitely the battery companies will be affected. right? well that is just my guess. unverified guess.

noble job

we people have the tendency to see people doing the dirty jobs as low or inferior to us. we think that they don't have the education or the brains because they end up doing the dirty works for us. and oftentimes, they are also discriminated against.

i admire one of our utility man in school. he is a full-time utility man and part-time student. he goes to classroom to check the facilities at day while he goes to classroom at night to attend his classes. one time i saw him sitting in one of the benches with his eyes closed. i approached him and he was surprise at my presence. he related that he had not gotten enough sleep the other night because they were busy cleaning the classrooms. he was there sitting and taking a 20 minute nap that i interrupted.

now he is graduating, not on top of his class but still he manage to finish his studies despite the hard work. the dirty works that most of us are not willing to do. but i think that is the noblest job, his job.

group dynamics

during the leadership training seminar, i was tasked to discuss problem identification and social analysis. i was thinking of an activity that could lead me to my topic. while searching to my old notes, the internet and other books i stumbled upon a piece of paper, my name and my college classmate's name on it. it was entitled, "The Mystic River" and it reads:

"Imagine that all of you are lost in a jungle. All of you wandered around the forest in search of a way to get out safely. Then you came across a wide river with toxic substances. One false move and you’re dead. The rescue team is on the other side of the river. You can only cross the river without being harmed when you are holding a mystic bottle. Each person can use the bottle only once, the bottle cannot be tossed over the river. Each person has to personally give the bottle to the next person."

and i said this is my activity for the seminar. i changed the name from mystic river to mystic bottle. the participants enjoyed the game. though the game i was able to discuss how and what problem identification really is.

just thinking

its a nice thing to unwind once in a while. to go to places where you could relax and think about on anything. like visiting your parent's house, your province for that matter. its time for re-connecting old ties with people whom you have not talked to for a long time. and its nice to hear their stories, the changes that had taken place while you are away. and you will be surprise to know that the people who are at war before are the ones married at the present or they are partners in business. (sigh) sometimes you will just think that how you wish you were there when those things are transpiring.

or if you want you can just visit the beach. enjoy the sunrise or sunset or both. enjoy the breeze while walking or just standing still and feeling the waves underneath your feet. (sigh!)

how i wish i can do that now. i feel like drowning with these many things happening around me. its like i'm inside a jungle full of boa constrictor and hungry lions.

ASAD TGC

Here's the copy of our lecture this morning

1. common traits – values are theoretical, economic, aesthetic, social, political and religious in nature

2. Personal disposition – Allport further said that there are kinds of personality traits: cardinal trait, central trait and secondary traits. Traits are not all equal. Some are more important and more likely to influence behavior than others.

a. Cardinal traits – are those around which an individual’s life will revolve. For example, if a person’s life is dominated by blind ambition and the desire for power, then the power would be the person’s cardinal trait.

b. Central traits – traits that play a major role in guiding a person’s behavior, but the person is not consumed by it.

c. Secondary traits – least influential characteristics. They involve specific situations or events. These traits may be considered as preferences or attitudes. Traits expressing isolated interests or modes of responding, like shaving the right side first.

Learning theory

Horney shows that a person wishes to find specific experiences in coping with life. She emphasizes on social forces rather than conflict with in the individual.

  1. Anxiety theory – Horney believes that a child develops basic emotions from the feelings of being isolated and helpless. All kinds of parental behaviors – inconsistency, indifference, unkept promises and so on – leave the child feeling insecure. Out of this basic anxiety, the child develops ways of coping with his world. Some of these coping mechanisms become a way of life.
  2. Superiority/ Compensatory theory – Adler’s theory evolved over a period of years. The foundation of the theory is that people develop as they strive to overcome or compensate for inferiorities. He said that people who have physical impairment devote much of their time in compensating for this defect. As a result, that weakness becomes strength. He added that the feelings of being inferior are a result of striving for power and perfection and failed to achieve it.

just a thought

It’s been three months since I assume the post of a counselor. It was hard at first, but as the days goes along I'm getting use to the work. Talking to students every now and then. Listening to their problems, probing and then guiding them.

I remember during my college days, my counselor always tells me that if I'm going to be a counselor someday. I'm not supposed to give advice to my counselee because it's a no in the field of counseling. At that time, it’s not that clear to me why he told me that.

Now that I’m a counselor, a young counselor to be exact, I have this tendency to lead my counselee to conclusion. A conclusion or solution which I think fits the situation. but at the end of the day, when I recall what I have done the whole day I came to realize that I will be so selfish if I insist on what I think is right for them. I also came to realize that these students have minds of their own. So all that I have to do is help them at arriving on solutions that best fit their own problems. It is based on their capabilities and weaknesses.

Counseling is more of empowerment of students, individuals with problems for that matter, to make or arrive at their own decision. Thus teaching them to be responsible for they are the one who choose that path or made that decision. The counselor's role is to show the door and they are the one who should walk through it. It’s like in the movie matrix. Morpheus showed Neo the door, and it is Neo who decided to walk through it.

Definition of psychology

The word Psychology came from the two Greek words, “psyche” and “logos” which literally translate to the study of the soul and later on it progress to the study of the mind. Today many authors would define psychology as the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.

Let us dissect the meaning to further understand the meaning of psychology. When we say behavior, two things come to mind – covert behaviors as well as overt behavior. Overt behaviors are behaviors visible to the eye. In short seen behaviors. Examples of overt behaviors are the way you dress, the way you talk, the way you eat, the color of your hair, the color of your pants. In a nut shell, these are the actions of individuals or groups that we see everyday. These are the actions that are observable and can be measured right there and then. In contrast, covert behaviors are behaviors not visible to the naked eye. These are unseen behaviors. Examples of covert behaviors would be anger, jealousy, pity, kindness, happiness, sadness. These are behaviors that you cannot discern at one glance unless you are good. Covert behaviors are also measurable but it entails a more intricate process. You can deduce the covert behaviors from the overt behaviors. It’s like playing the charades game. The player acting in front of the group, who is doing the actions, is actually doing obvert behaviors. The person is acting out related behaviors so that his/her group mates would be able to guess the answer. Covert behavior is like that. How do we know that a person is sad? Happy? We can know this by observing the obvert behaviors. We can say that a person is sad when that person is not smiling, the eyes are teary, staring at you blankly and so on so forth. While a person who is smiling, singing up-tempo songs, jumping here and there could be assumed that that person is happy. So those are the definition of behavior, covert and overt.

When we say mental processes, again, two things come to mind – conscious mental process and unconscious mental process. Conscious mental processes are the processes wherein we are aware of. Example, we are aware that we are reading this text right now, that we are moving the mouse pointer or scrolling down the text. Conscious meaning we are thinking about it. While unconscious processes are the processes that we are not aware of or we are not constantly thinking about it. Consider breathing, we are not thinking moment by moment that we have to breathe. It comes in naturally.

And those are the two parts of our definition of psychology, the behavior and mental processes. Sometimes we have the tendency to jump on hasty conclusions specially if don’t like the person. When we see a person who is always alone, it is easy for us to say that that person is anti-social. That he/she is nerd, not exciting to be with. We made the conclusion based on just one observable, obvert behavior. That’s where the scientific study comes in to play. Psychology is a scientific study and it’s not just making conclusions out of one overt behavior. When we say scientific study, the conclusion is obtained through systematic and objective methods of observation and experimentation. It follows a step by step procedure in doing the observation and conducting tests before making a comprehensive conclusion.

Basically psychology is step by step observation and experimentation, of obvert and covert behaviors and see if it is process consciously or unconsciously.

untitled #1

i was looking at the picture of this two geese swimming in a pond this afternoon and i just wanted to make something of it. so i made a poem about the two.

untitled #1

Do you remember the first day we met?

It just rained that day

The inadequate sun’s ray bouncing boundlessly

Illuminating the beauty of your looks

I can’t help it but to stare

At the young lad so vogue and wet

Sparkling and glistening against the gloomy day

Flowing freely in a moribund scenery

Do you remember the vast pink daisies?

Engulfing the minuscule chapel by the pond

Do you remember the scent of it?

Crowding the regions of my heart

And how my feathery cheek blushed

When I said, “Flowers for you”

You responded an engaging smile

That knocks me out

And forgot how to swim for a moment

That day, henceforth

I said to myself

“there could only be one goose in my life,

and that goose is you!”

even though we’re far apart for now

I’m always thinking about you

for the reason is that once upon a time,

two lonely hearts found their way

once a pond a time…
